A Raisin In The Fun

I am a member of a quiz night team called Raisins, Obviously.

We’ve actually been quite successful, winning a number of competitions in the last year or so.

After a recent victory, a friend asked about the significance of the name.  I responded by referring to “A Raisin in the Sun”.

I explained that in that play, dreams are often deferred. Abandoned to dry like grapes in the sun, dreams become raisins.

Similarly, our forefathers made sacrifices for us at the expense of their own dreams.

The end result? It’s us. We are the raisins, obviously.

That’s us.

She nodded in evident awe.

I then confessed that the name Raisins, Obviously is really just a declaration of how we like our conkies.

I don’t think she’s quite forgiven me.

Worth it!
