“Some Fishcakes Kill a Lady”

It’s really easy to mishear something and it has nothing to do with ageing or even hearing loss. This is especially so with song lyrics.

There is song by Hall & Oates called I Can’t Go For That. For the entirety of my early teens I sang it (badly) as I Can’t Cope With That.

That example isn’t actually too bad though. I have a friend who swore the chorus of Let’s Get Retarded by the Black Eyed Peas was Let’s Get Bacardi in here.

That one I kinda get, but that same friend also thought that MC Hammer wasn’t saying 2 Legit 2 Quit but was in fact singing Do The Jerk at Work. That one still stumps me, Carol!

One of my workmates told me that he used to sing Natalie Cole’s Sophisticated Lady as Some Fishcakes Kill a Lady, but he’s an idiot.

Apparently this phenomenon can extend to reading because I saw a headline this morning - New Deficit Reduction Plan Coming - but I somehow misread that as Elections Here Just Now.

Weird huh?
